Building the Ohio Model Planes GS 540 Profile can and should be a lot of fun. If you have never built a profile it will be a new experience. Well, the fuselage will be. It is built flat and "skinny". There is no shape to it other than the "profile" of the plane for which it is shaped after.

I have never built a foam-sheeted fuselage and it was very simple. Glue the two pieces together for the fuselage and then add the canopy. You create the sheeting just like sheeting a wing. Edge glue some pieces together and glue them onto the fuselage, Add a lot of weight to keep it straight while the glue sets and then do some trimming and add the cap strips around the entire assembly.

The wings are built very conventionally. The only difference is you are building a wing that bolts ONTO the fuselage with a tab fore and aft. Tail feathers are also conventional. If you follow the instructions on the CD provided ( a GREAT WAY to have the instructions) its very hard to build it wrong. A little reading and planning ahead and it is truly a breeze. I really enjoyed building the airplane and had a lot of fun modification it for my engine(s) and servo set up. It proved to me the kit is very versatile.

Custom hatch compartments. Awsome idea to hold the tank on!

Ignition system for DA50. Built up throttle box also supports engine mount.

As for any new airplane I could not wait to build it. Originally this plane was built for a very good friend of mine, George Smith who lives here in Lake Havasu. He was the lucky one who got to test fly it. It took very little trim to get it dialed in. We quickly realized the power was awesome! Throttle management is a MUST! Then after a shake down check ( nuts, bolts, ect, up it went again. This time it was also my turn to try the results of my labor of love. WOW! That is all I could think of to say. We had so much fun that day it ended way too soon. But there is always tomorrow!

This is a jig Vic built to build the wings very straight and true. Since it is important to build it straight and at 90 degrees to the fuse, that is why Vic decided to build the jig. This will help you to create a very straight wing.

Custom modular motor mount. This mount is interchangeable so that in only minutes Vic can swap out the OS 300 Twin with a brand new DA 50. Why you ask? I've been asking myself the same question.

If you want a fun-to-build-fun-to-fly airplane, I highly recommend the OMP GS 540P. There is no limit as to what the airplane can do.
Thanks OMP!

THE PILOT:
Hello all! I am Vic M. from AZ. I have been flying R/C since 1974. I have flown all types of RC from little to giant. Currently I am REALLY into 3D and the GS Profile. I like BIG and POWERFUL airplanes. I have flown Pattern, Aerobatics, Quickie 500, Formula One, Helicopters and anything else that will fly. I use Futaba transmitters exclusively. Receivers and servos depend on quality and features. So far I am pleased with all Futaba and some Hitech equipment.

I normally build ARFS ( time restraints ) but the OMP GS 540 was very intriguing. I flew a friends and was totally hooked. I have flown many of the giant scale airplanes, alot of Joe Bridi planes in the early days, ducted fans and many more. I have used OS engines, 3W 50cc, 3W 100cc, DA 50cc, DA 100cc, DA 150cc and Brison 3.2 and 4.8 twin, to name a few. I have no preference over gas or glow. If it's powerful and works in the plane, that's what matters.

My biggest supporters are Rick and Debbie at MAJOR HOBBY in Lake Havasu City, AZ, ( visit them on line ) George and Patti Smith also of LHC and Bob Clendenon. Our local club is the Desert Hawks. We have about 130 active members. We have a great flying field; Sterling Field in Sara Park. I guess that's all for now.
